His career started with PwC Chartered Accountants where he worked in corporate recovery for 11 years and studied accountancy. During this time, he managed several property developers and builders that went into Receivership or Liquidation and managed the build out of various residential housing developments. Following his time with PwC Philip moved to Orange Telecommunications where he was involved in the financial business planning for the Orange group producing a 10 year forecast and evaluating the cost of the government sale of 4G licences.
In 1999 Philip began his property investment journey letting his and his wife’s residential properties whilst buying a new property, his property portfolio now extends to 9 properties with over a million pounds of equity. He has also completed several flips generating around £30,000 profit on each one and has completed a purchase refurbishment and refinancing all done within four months of the purchase date.
After the downturn in the telecoms market Phillip moved into mortgage advising in 2004, he felt that the advisors he had met were more interested in closing the deal than understanding what he wanted to achieve and really didn’t understand the BTL market. Initial training was with Countrywide where he worked for 11 months and was in the top 5 advisors within that time. Philip ultimately disagreed with the ethics of Countrywide and set up his own business Shire Financial Services in August 2006, just before the recession! This business now has 7 brokers and 4 admin staff, specialising in the buy to let sector but also with a large client base of residential purchases.
